JCON Mentoring Roundtables

Ever thought “This is interesting, but what does this mean for my situation?”
Welcome to the JCON Mentoring Roundtables!

Instead of another presentation, the Mentoring Roundtables gives you the opportunity to have a real conversation with someone who has experience in a topic that matters to you.

Our mentors are experienced people from the Java and developer community who are willing to share what they have learned.

Each mentorship session will have a topic or area where the mentor can help.

That might be:

Java or software architecture
AI and AI-assisted development
Open source
Developer careers
Technical leadership
Community building
Modernizing legacy applications
Making technology decisions

But even if you have a completely different question, there might be mentor for you!

We want to keep this simple.

A mentorship schedule will show which mentors are available, when they will be there and what they are offering to talk about.

That is it.

Getting new knowledge was never that easy!

Mentorship sessions are deliberately informal.

You are there to talk. The mentor is there to help!
Ask a question.
Explain the problem you are dealing with.
Tell them about a decision you need to make.

Hear another perspective.
Learn from someone who may already have made the mistake you are about to make.

Other attendees may join the conversation as well, which means you can learn from each other's questions and experiences.

A conference can give you hundreds of sessions and thousands of people.

But sometimes one useful conversation is the thing you remember six months later.

It might help you choose a technology.
Change how you approach a project.
Give you an idea for your career.
Introduce you to somebody new.
Or simply confirm that other people are struggling with exactly the same problem.

That is what the Mentoring Roundtable is for.
Less presenting. More talking. More sharing. More learning from each other.
